Three islands connected by road to the mainland, a place for recreation and relaxation, meet La Calzada de Amador.

The Amador Causeway also known as “Amador Causeway” or simply “Amador”, is a very famous road that connects the mainland with three islands in the Bay of Panama. Naos, Flamenco and Perico are the three islands that are accessible by land by visitors who enjoy the view of the Panama City skyline and the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal.

Amador was built by the Americans when the construction of the Panama Canal was being carried out, the material of the original causeway was extracted from the multiple excavations of the waterway, mainly from Culebra Cut. In recent years, the road was expanded from two to four lanes, and the cycling roads, green areas, viewpoints, etc. were improved.

Along the route you can find places such as convention centers for large events, restaurants, nightclubs, hotels, souvenir shops, a marina, sports shops, a Go Kart track and the Biomuseo designed by the architect Frank Gehry. Also from the Amador Causeway is the ferry departure point for two touristic islands in the Panamanian Pacific, Taboga and Contadora.

The activities that are commonly done in Amador are sports, on Sunday mornings a lane of the road is reserved for cyclists in both directions. Many adults and children can spread out along the bike lane, either riding a bike, walking, running or even skating. Some visitors also dedicate their stay to fishing from the viewpoints, and some other visitors also manage to do group kayaking, or simply dedicate themselves to watching the ships transit the Panama Canal; It is a very good place to take photos

This place is mostly frequented on weekends and Friday afternoons. Whatever your reason for visiting Amador, remember that this area is wide, and it is recommended to have water to hydrate yourself, and sun protection.
